English Language Services (ESL)
Viet, Farah and Rosa have a few things in common. They are all excited about living their new life in the United States. They love learning about the different cultures that they see around them and are enthusiastic to be a part of other people’s lives.
They also are students of English as a Second Language (ESL), which is a part of the Educational Services Program of the International Institute of New Jersey. Since they started learning how to communicate in English, Viet has enrolled at a local college to pursue higher learning; Farah has become a U.S. citizen and a proud voter; Rosa obtained a higher paid position at a very prestigious firm.
Through English as a Second Language classes, we are able to provide adults with the language and living skills needed to participate productively in the community while acquiring an increased capacity to learn more about American life and permanent residence in the United States. We work closely with our clients to provide a cost-free service to immigrants, who can also access IINJ’s legal, counseling, resettlement, and employment preparation and placement services. The program recognizes that the multicultural background of its clientele requires a flexible educational program that is culturally and linguistically appropriate.
Our administrative and teaching staff reflects the ethnic and racial backgrounds that are represented in the classroom. Our teachers are New Jersey State Certified in teaching English as a Second Language. Integral in the program is a qualified staff with an exceptional level of understanding of the customs, traditions, and beliefs of the people with whom we work, enabling us to meet the unique educational needs of each student.
